ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

Ahmednagar College is the first college in Ahmednagar District which opened the gates of Higher Education to all types of the students irrespective of their caste, religion and race. The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1962. Post Graduate Courses were started from 1967. The department of Commerce was the oldest department in the district who started post graduation. In 2008 the department started Doctoral Research Center. Nine Research Guides are associated with Commerce Research Center out of which Six are in- house faculty members. So far, Seventeen students have been awarded Ph.D. degree by Savitribai Phule Pune University and currently Twenty Seven students are registered with the center for Ph.D . It has also a long history in shaping the commercial and business environment in and around Ahmednagar District. Most of the famous businesses and industries are owned by the students of Department of Commerce. Dr P.Z Palsapure was the first Head of the Department succeeded by Dr. S.B. Kolte, Ex Dean of Faculty of Commerce, Dr. V.S. Dikonda, Prof A. M. Pawar, Dr. S. P. Huddedar. Dr. V. D. Barve and Dr.D.B.More. Presently, Dr. R.P. Deshmukh is working as a Head of the Department. The department has a Commerce Association, which is actively engaged in various activities with the help of students and faculty members. The commerce association is regularly arranging lectures related with trade, commerce, industry, management, taxation & global scenarios. Eminent personalities, consultants and resource persons were invited for delivering the lectures on related topics.

DEPARTMENT REPORT:


Department of Commerce Report January, 2022- December, 2022 I. Department Overview:- The Department of Commerce and Research Centre had organized an "Induction Function" for F.Y. B.COM students. The Student Induction Programme is designed to orient the F.Y.B.com. students about the institute, departmental activities, Institute Orientation and students were familiarized about facilities and infrastructure of their core department. The Department of Commerce prides itself on adopting a skill- oriented educational approach, where a student is inculcated with a required skill set for overall development which helps them in their life. The Department of Commerce majorly emphasizes on developing employability skills among the students by conducting various certificate courses. Certificate course in Developing Employability Skills which focused to make the students confident in presenting themselves and be industry ready. This employability skills course enhances the students’ performance during their group discussions and Personal Interviews.The topics covered under the workshop was Time Management, importance of communication skills, how to develop various employability skills, theory of constraints: A handy tool for enhancing personal traits, How to write C.V/Resume, Career Awareness,Positive Attitude and Self management. Certificate Course in Developing Women Employability was conducted which aimed to develop communication skills among girls students and make them industry ready for good job opportunities and to hone the employability related communication skills of the students on the foundations. The Department of Commerce and Research Centre had conducted the Certificate Course in Personality Development and Life Skills approved by Savitribai Phule Pune University in hybrid mode. The content of the certificate course focuses on how an individual can develop their personality, what are the best personality development activities which can be used by an individual to improve quality of their life, what kind of soft skills an individual must have skills for achieving success in life and the role of youth in developing professional qualitites. The sessions of the certificate course emphasize time management, stress management techniques, the seven habits of highly effective people, professional and leadership development and what are the ways of living an authentic life. To commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan students organized a Teachers Day Program for all the teachers. To uphold women's achievements, recognise challenges and raise awareness about gender equality International Women’s Day was celebrated. On the occasion of International Accountant Day the department felicitated the account professionals of accounts department of Ahmednagar College. World Legal Service Day was celebrated by inviting the most senior councilor Adv. S. B. Pallod. In order to familiarize the students with a practical approach, professionals and experts from various areas were invited for guest lectures. Guest Lectures on Trends in Business Management, Material Management, Cost Accounting Standards, Career Opportunities in Cost Accounting, Importance of Body Language, Soft Skills, were organized for the students. Other activities like Business Quiz Competition, Essay Writing Competition, Mehendi Competition. Rangoli making Competition, Ad-Mad Show, Cooking Competition, Extempore Competition, Small Scale Day Quiz
